Cerzeva H de León is already the first beer in the world made exclusively from local León hop varieties, specifically types H3 and H7, grown specifically for the production of this beer by the Vamos a Beer and Brew Indie breweries.

This initiative was born thanks to the enthusiasm of Sergio Pérez Carnicero, CEO of Cervezas Brew, and Carlos Sanz, creator of Vamos a Beer, who, during the hops and beer fair Carrizo de la Ribera, had the idea of using this type of hop forgotten to produce this Leonese beer.

Sergio Perez and Carlos Sanz are the creators of this beer with 100% natural hops.

This beer is a limited release as only about 500 cans and 12 barrels were produced. “We didn’t do more because we couldn’t,” explained Sergio Perez. “We used all the hops we had.”

H de León is a clear, straw-colored beer with very little malt, in which the main character is all León hops. Both H7 and H3 are very aromatic and not very bitter hop varieties that fell out of planting after the introduction of other bitterer (and more popular) hop varieties such as “Nugget” or “Magnum”, but thanks to the work of small farmers they have been restored to production of this beer.

Everything seems to indicate that this will be the first of many batches as Leon’s local hops are being restored, thanks to a few farmers. Of course, we will have to wait to see as these varieties take around 7 years to produce optimal yield and although there was a small harvest this year, it will grow over the years and this variety can be revived for commercialization.

H de León, to the delight of Leonese beer lovers, will be presented on Friday, November 8, starting at eight o’clock in the evening, at La Abadía de Don Gutierre. There, the Vamos a Beer brewmaster will individually explain all the details and secrets of this beer to those who come to try it.
