The film is known for being a little strange due to Lanthimos’ unique vision with offbeat humor, unconventional storytelling, and ambiguous characters. The film nevertheless received critical praise for its vision and distinctive storytelling exploring themes such as relationships, power and intimacy through an unconventional setting.

However, the actress and all the other stars had to go through a somewhat bizarre audition process for their respective roles. The actress talked about the audition process during a press conference for the film (via USA Today).
“I auditioned for Yorgos, he told me to pant like I was giving birth.”
Although her character was not pregnant, she still had to pretend to be during the audition. This makes one wonder why Lanthimos would want him to act this way, to which Stone commented.
“I think he does the same with everybody.”
Which he certainly does, as other actors also had some bizarre but fun experiences during their auditions and later during production.
