Health officials meet with Llanes City Council and school community after tuberculosis outbreak
OVIEDO, May 12. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Representatives of the Health Department of the Government of Asturias will meet this Monday with representatives of the city council and the school community to update information and coordinate actions in response to the cases of tuberculosis identified in the Llanes council.
The Ministry of Health has confirmed four cases of tuberculosis, three of them in minor children and one adult, who are being monitored and treated to prevent the spread of the bacteria that causes infections (Koch’s bacillus).
In addition, nine more infected people were identified, but they did not develop the disease and are not infectious (with tuberculosis, as with other infectious diseases, infection does not mean the development of the disease).
The meeting will take place at the Health Directorate of Region VI, to which the Llanes Council belongs. In addition to the municipal representative office, the management of the school of the affected minors and the president of the Association of Mothers and Fathers (AMPA) were summoned.
Since the detection of the first case, the Epidemiological Surveillance Service, in collaboration with health authorities, both primary and hospital, has developed recommendations that must be followed in accordance with the protocol approved by the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System. Since then, constant monitoring of the sick and their family environment has been carried out.
