Helldivers 2 Creative Director Apologizes After Receiving Thousands of Negative Reviews on Steam

The director of Helldivers 2 has apologized for the controversy sparked this week by Sony’s announcement that the game will require the use of a PlayStation account on PC starting next month.

According to developer Arrowhead, the PlayStation account requirement was made optional when the game was released earlier due to technical issues. However, as soon as the “grace period” ends, all users of the game on Steam will have to link their PlayStation (PSN) account, which did not please the community.

The response was so bad that the game was bombarded with tens of thousands of negative reviews on Steam, accusing Sony of being a “dictator” and displaying “corporate greed.”

One point of contention, for example, is the fact that there are many countries in which Helldivers 2 can currently be played via Steam, but in which the PlayStation Network is not available.

To top it off, Sony’s communication on the matter has been confusing, to say the least. The North American website, for example, states that “PSN sign-in is not required when purchasing a PlayStation game on PC,” while the UK website explains that “some PlayStation games may require you to sign in and link your PSN account.” .

Despite the complaints, Sony is currently refusing to issue refunds to users unhappy with this requirement.
