Here’s how his policies will change from 2025

Amazon has an enviable return policy. Peace of mind when we know we can buy a product and if it doesn’t work, we can return it and get our money back. Amazon has built an excellent reputation in this regard, but obviously this generous policy comes at a cost.

We explain what the current conditions are and What will change in Spain from January 1, 2025. Some of the changes to returns that Amazon itself describes are intended to “handle the operational costs of returns and reduce waste.”

What are Amazon’s return restrictions?

First of all, it should be noted that all buyers in Spain have the right to withdraw from the sales contract without giving a reason within 14 calendar days from the date of receipt of the goods. The fact is that in addition to this right, Amazon allows returns. up to 30 days later.

The condition that Amazon states in its policy is that these They must be returned “new, unused and complete.”.

In addition, there are a number of exceptions that prevent returns. For hygienic reasons, cosmetics cannot be returned; For personalization reasons, Amazon Handmade items cannot be returned and daily newspapers cannot be returned due to expiration date.

Returns are usually made with shipping label and postage prepaid. Depending on the service used, costs apply which can range from €2.99 for the post office or €5.50 if it is an international return. Products sold directly through Amazon are exempt from the tax.

On February 5, 2024, Amazon changed its fees for seller returns and listings. Effective June 1, 2024, there are also changes to U.S. return processing fees. In the case of Spain, these new rates will apply from next year.

Amazon is stopping selling most returned items

As of January 1, 2025, a “new processing fee for high-return product returns” will come into effect in our country, with the exception of special categories such as clothing, eyewear, shoes and accessories.

This, Amazon will start charging extra fees to sellers whose products are returned in bulk. This will not directly affect the consumer, but it will affect sellers.

According to Amazon, this rate increase will apply to items above a certain threshold based on each category. And charges will begin to arrive between April 7 and April 15.

How will Amazon calculate this threshold? The percentage of units shipped and returned between this month and the next two calendar months will be taken into account. Small sellers will not be affectedsince for products shipped less than 25 units per month, it will not be taken into account.

Amazon customers will still have 30 days to return items, but the strategy isn’t free.
