Hezbollah “crosses red lines” in the Golan Heights – DW – 07/28/2024
The Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs said this Sunday (07/28/2024) that the Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah “crossed all red lines” after firing rockets from Lebanon at the Golan Heights this Saturday, causing 12 deaths.
Israel Katz declared in a statement, “The projectile that killed our boys and girls was an Iranian rocket and Hezbollah is the only terrorist organization that has these weapons.” He added, “This is not an army fighting another army, but a terrorist organization deliberately firing on civilians.”
“There is no doubt that Hezbollah has crossed all the red lines here and the response will reflect that,” the official told Israel’s Channel 12. “We are getting closer to the time when we will face an all-out war.” Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Islamist movement in Lebanon, has denied being behind the deadly shooting.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised that “Israel will not leave this deadly attack unanswered.” The leader will return earlier than expected from the United States, where he spent a week traveling, and will chair a security meeting this Sunday.
The Israeli military on Saturday accused Hezbollah of firing rockets that killed 12 minors between the ages of 10 and 16 and injured 30 people in Majdal Shams.
The town is located in the Golan Heights, a strategic region at the crossroads between Syria, Lebanon and Israel that Israel largely conquered during the 1967 Israeli-Arab War. Israel annexed two-thirds of the territory in 1981 and annexed the community. It has never recognized the annexation.
