There are two main ways to find sponges in Minecraft:

Meeting with the old guardian

1. Venture to an Ocean Monument, submerged in the deep waters of Minecraft.
2. Interact with the old guardian, one of the inhabitants of the monument.
3. Upon defeating the Elder Guardian, you will find a wet sponge.

• If you’re lucky, you’ll find a “sponge room” inside an Ocean Monument.
• These rooms contain a treasure trove of sponges, averaging around 30 per room.
• Extract these sponges by hand or with a hoe.

How to use sponges in Minecraft

Now that you know where to find sponges, you need to understand how to use these blocks. This is what you should do:

1. Equip a sponge from your inventory.
2. Approach the body of water you wish to drain.
3. Place the sponge in the water and witness its magic as it begins to absorb blocks of water.
4. A single sponge can absorb up to 65 blocks of water in all seven directions.

That being said, you should strategize before using sponges in Minecraft. For optimal results, place sponges in blocks of water. It’s important to remember that sponges prioritize absorbing the water closest to them first, so make sure the sponge is adjacent to the water you want to remove.

As the sponge absorbs water, it transforms into a wet sponge. Once saturated, a damp sponge can be dried for reuse. You can dry wet sponges by placing them in the Nether or using an oven with a fuel source.
