HYPERMENRRHOEA IN ADOLESCENTS
Hypermenorrhea or heavy menstrual bleeding is a very common problem and a very common reason for seeking advice.

DEFINITION
Menstruation with a bleeding volume of 5 to 80 ml is considered normal. Obviously, it is impossible to measure the amount of bleeding in patients, so we will rely on their subjective impression.

REASONS
While there are many reasons that can explain heavy periods in teenagers, we’ll focus on the most common cause of hypermenorrhea in adolescence: anovulatory conditions.

CARE
The main goal of treatment is to reverse the anemia and, if possible, achieve more regular cycles. In addition, we will also try to reduce the possible long-term risks of this anovulatory condition.

We will use iron supplements, birth control and, in severe cases, high doses of estrogen or, as a last resort, uterine curettage.
