In the last week of May, the incidence of respiratory infections increased by 29%

VALENCIA (EFE). The incidence of acute respiratory infections caused by Covid in the last week of May in the Valencian Community increased by 29% to 57 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared with 44.1 in the previous week, while influenza and respiratory syncytial virus decreased slightly.

This is evidenced by the latest Bulletin of the Surveillance System for Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) of the Valencian Community (SIVIRA CV), which includes the incidence of ARI caused by Covid, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) for the 22nd week of 2024 (from May 27 to June 2 ).

The incidence of acute respiratory infections (ARI) – caused by covid, influenza and RSV – in the Valencian Community has decreased and stands at 523.3 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants (465.8 national average) compared to 588, with 2 cases occurring in the previous week ( average 428.1).

At the same time, the incidence of severe ARI in hospitals in Valencia, which in the week of the 21st (from 20 to 26 May) was 14.5 cases (12.7 at the national level), a week later decreased to 13.2 cases (12.5 at the national level ). ).

People over 80 years of age suffer most from severe ARI in hospitals – 86.9 cases per hundred thousand people in the last week of May (83.1 cases in the previous week), as well as people under 4 years of age with an incidence of 7.7 cases. in week 22, up from 16.9 cases the previous week.

For acute respiratory infections caused by Covid, the incidence increased by 29% and reached 57 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants, compared to 44.1 cases in the previous week. As for the flu, at week 22 it was 4.2 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants (4.7 the week before).

The incidence of ARI caused by RSV in the 22nd week of this year decreased slightly and amounted to 5.2 cases per hundred thousand people, whereas a week earlier it was 5.9 cases.

The most affected age groups are children under 4 years of age, whose incidence in the last week was 1843.1 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants, compared to 2054 cases in the previous week; and persons over 65 years of age, whose incidence in the last week of May was 472.8 cases (540.3 in week 21).
