Israel bombed a humanitarian zone in southern Gaza, killing at least 27 people, just hours after the army called for an evacuation.

At least 27 people have been killed in the past few hours in a new attack by the Israeli army against suspected Hamas militants in Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip. Six minors are also among the victims. According to the Islamist-controlled Gaza Health Ministry report, about 36 people have been injured at the Nasser Hospital operating in the area.

The attack came hours after the army ordered the evacuation of the city’s humanitarian zone, where people displaced by the conflict lived. Gaza Civil Defense reports that the order affects about 400,000 people. The new evacuation order restricts the already scarce access to the Mawasi humanitarian zone, where 1.4 million displaced people live, most of them from the city of Rafah, bordering Egypt, which was considered safe until an army raid in early May.

“The Israeli occupation deliberately manipulates the displacement of the population of the Gaza Strip to prolong their suffering. The areas where people have been ordered to go are not safe,” the Palestinian Red Crescent denounced. The humanitarian organization claims to have treated dozens of dead and injured people due to Israeli attacks in the eastern region of Khan Yunis and denounced that the forces do not allow their ambulances to enter the affected areas. The health has also called for “urgent” blood donations for the wounded arriving at Nasser Hospital.

In the past, Israeli attacks have already been recorded in civilian areas and these were considered humanitarian, such as in Rafah or in displaced people camps in the center of the Strip. On July 13, Israel launched a direct attack in the humanitarian zone of Mawasi with the aim of killing Mohammed Deif, the chief commander of Hamas’ armed wing, the Al Qassam Brigades. His death has not been confirmed, but the attack killed 90 Gazans and wounded another 300; in addition to his right-hand man, Rafa Salameh, the commander of Hamas’ Khan Younis Brigade. (Efe)
