Israeli army recovers body of another hostage in Gaza – DW – 05/18/2024

The Israeli military announced on Saturday (18/05/2024) the recovery of the body of another Israeli hostage who died following an attack by the Hamas terrorist group on October 7.

Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the body of 53-year-old Ron Benjamin was found in the Gaza Strip along with three other hostages, whose repatriation was announced on Friday.

“Benjamin was killed during the massacre at the Mefelsim crossing on October 7, and his body was abducted by Hamas terrorists and taken to Gaza,” the Israeli military said.

“His body was rescued along with those of Itzhak Gelrenter, Shani Louk and Amit Buskila (…) thanks to precise information received during the interrogation of terrorists detained in the Gaza Strip,” the statement said.

On Saturday, the Hostage Families Forum, which represents some relatives of those kidnapped, called on Israeli authorities to reach an agreement with Hamas to repatriate those still held in Gaza.

“Those who are alive should be returned to rehabilitation, and those who have been murdered should be brought to dignified burials, as was possible for Ron Benjamin this afternoon,” the group said in a statement.
