It was the Ballon d’Or vote: L’Equipe reveals how many votes Rodri beat Vinicius by

(EFE) – Just 41 points separated Rodri from Vinicius in his victory in the recent Ballon d’Or, according to voting data published this Friday by France Football and L’Equipe.

The Spanish midfielder from Manchester City has 1,170 points and the Brazilian striker from Real Madrid has 1,129, the closest total since 2019 when Leo Messi beat Dutchman Virgil van Dijk.

In percentage terms, Rodri received 17.6% of the votes compared to 17% for Vinicius.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or was awarded at a gala evening held on October 28 in Paris.

Among the 99 jury members who voted, fifteen did not choose Rodri or Vinicius at the top of their personal top ten list, choosing other Real Madrid players.

Jude Bellingham (5 times), Dani Carvajal (4 times) and Toni Kroos (2 times) were the other top vote-getters after the duo. With just one mention each, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez and Ademola Lookman were at the top of the list.

However, only five jury members did not include Rodri among the ten selected, and Vinicius was ignored by three.

It is curious that not a single member of the jury this year exactly coincided with the “top 10”, and only seven coincided with the first four: Rodri, Vinicius, Bellingham and Carvajal.
