Italy approves new anti-piracy law
Italy is tightening its law against audiovisual fraud. Congress shed light on the new amendments, which the Senate already approved last week. This is a set of measures to restrict access to IPTV platforms through which content such as the Internet is pirated, and which forces VPN and DNS services to comply with orders to block illegal content. if required by the owners of audiovisual rights.
The Italian Congress of Deputies has approved increased protection for the audiovisual industry. The new amendments remove restrictions on the number of domains and IP addresses that Internet providers must block. This measure is intended to mitigate the fact that most pages are cloud dependent and share the same IP address, making it very difficult to target fraudulent pages. What’s new now is that all pages of a single address can be blocked, although the rule stipulates that these addresses can be unblocked after six months if the illegal use is stopped. In addition, the new legislation states that VPNs, DNS services, teleoperators and service providers are subject to penalties of up to one year in prison if they do not report activities related to audiovisual fraud.
In Spain, La Liga is demanding more help from management. Employers say they are on a crusade against audiovisual fraud and are getting no help. Moreover, I know that piracy crimes bring losses to Spanish professional football clubs in the amount of 600 to 700 million euros per year. LaLiga also denounces the fact that large technology companies such as Google or Apple do not cooperate as they profit from their search engines, app stores or advertising, among other things. In fact, Spain’s employers’ association claims that if Google cooperated, piracy would be reduced by 80%.
