Italy will have five teams in the 2024/25 Champions League… and Germany is close
ANDbut is official. Five teams will take part in the next UEFA Champions League in Italy. The format expanded to 36 clubs for the 2024–25 season. Confirmation came after the second legs of the European and Conference quarter-finals. Serie A has improved the UEFA coefficient (in all three competitions it is taken into account) than the rest of the federations, with Germany and England fighting for the next available extra place.
And this season, two of the four additional places, compared to the current 32, will be allocated to the two best-ranked federations for performance in the 2023/24 season. Serie A, which did not have a single team in the quarter-finals of the Champions League this year, has achieved this thanks to the Europa League and the Conference, where it has three representatives in the semi-finals.
Thus, Inter, Milan, Juventus, Bologna and Roma can qualify right now. But if Atalanta or Roma win the Europa League and remain outside the TOP 5 of Serie A… Italy will have six teams in the 2024–25 Champions League!
- Italy – 19,429 points (additional Champions League spot)
- Germany – 17,929 points (additional Champions League spot for now)
- England – 17,375 points
- France – 15,917 points
- Spain – 15,313 points
Germany vs England
Meanwhile, the Bundesliga is one step away. The Germans hardly need to add two victories (among the three surviving clubs: Dortmund, Bayern and Leverkusen) to ensure this. Otherwise, Aston Villa, the only team remaining in the Premier League, would have to win the Conference with three wins from three games.
