After struggling with her body image for years, Billie Eilish had to ask herself: What am I made for?
In a new interview for Variety’s The Power of Women issue, the 21-year-old singer, who recently spoke with “Barbie” veteran “What Was I Made For?” Received Record of the Year and Song of the Year nominations for Open Up. About the heavy scrutiny her body has faced over the years.
“I have big breasts,” Eilish declared. “I’ve had big breasts since I was nine years old and that’s just the way I am. This is what I look like. You wear something that exposes everyone, and everyone says, ‘Oh, but you didn’t want people to sexually assault you?’ You can suck my ass! I am, in fact, a being who is sometimes sensual. “Go to hell!”
When she was just 14, Eilish took the music industry by storm with her debut single “Ocean Eyes” and three years later released her debut album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” With , he almost made a total splash. Oversized and overly loose-fitting clothing.
The Grammy winner admits that she often wears clothes that don’t show off her body, in order to hide it from the world and the judgment that comes with being in the public eye.
“I wasn’t trying to keep people from sexually assaulting me,” she explained. “But I didn’t want people to have access to my body, even visually. I wasn’t strong and secure enough to show it. If I had shown it at that time, I would have been completely devastated if people would have said anything. Maybe I don’t really care about sexuality because I’ve never felt wanted or desirable.
The “Happier Than Ever” singer believes there is a double standard in Hollywood and blamed men for creating a system for female judges based on how they look rather than how they look.
“No one ever says anything about men’s bodies. If you are healthy, it is good. If you’re not, that’s cool. If you are thin, that’s good. If your father is married, it is good. If you’re ticklish, love it! Everyone is happy with this. do you know why? Because girls are good. They don’t give up because we see people for who they are!”
Eilish, who was last romantically linked to Jesse Rutherford of alternative band The Neighborhood (the couple split in May 2022 after eight months of dating), revealed that she too has felt “attracted” to women.
“I love (women) so much,” the “Bad Guy” singer explained. “I love them as people. I am attracted to him as a person. I’m really attracted to him. The singer-songwriter continued, “I have deep relationships with the women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life.” “I am physically attracted to him. But I am also very intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.”
Although she is able to recognize the beauty of others, Eilish had difficulty recognizing her own beauty.
“Honestly, I never felt like a woman,” Eilish revealed. “I never felt desirable. I never felt feminine. I have to convince myself that I am like a beautiful girl. “I identify as ‘she/her’ and things like that, but I’ve never really felt like a girl.”
She added, “I never really felt like I could connect with girls very well.”
