The stellar Cuban hitter from Cienfuegos, José Abreu, came to the Houston Astros from the Chicago White Sox in the current Major League Baseball (MLB) offseason, to reinforce the start of the sidereal team, to the detriment of his compatriot Yulieski Gurriel.
“Pito” made his debut in the Big Top in 2014 and spent nine continuous seasons with the “Windy City” organization. During that time, he managed to become one of the most stable and feared hitters in the American League, an aspect that helped him to be included in the roster of the current World Series champion, a pending issue in the endorsement of the West Indian.
Despite the fact that the Texan franchise has several top-level players in MLB, the presence of the Cienfuegos player in the group arouses the interest of fans and the specialized press, who await his offensive contribution to return to the postseason.
For this reason, the official MLB Cuba Instagram account shared Abreu’s latest statements. “I am very excited to be here and contribute to the team, I am very grateful for the opportunity that everyone has given me here. I am a new piece in this family, and we have a lot of talent », he concluded.
Undoubtedly, the Houston team will have one of the most important battering pairs in the Major Leagues, both Cubans. Yordan Álvarez and José Abreu will be dangerous for opposing pitchers, because if they both produce their usual number of homers they will have to easily exceed 60 homers.
Precisely, about Abreu, Álvarez explained: “As soon as he signed, I called him to say hello. We’ve had chances to talk more. I’m very excited that he’s here. It was difficult to lose Yuli (Gurriel), but it was losing a Cuban and receiving another. I feel very excited for him (Abreu)”
