Josema Jimenez explained what happened in the stands
Uruguayan defender Jose Maria Jimenez explains incidents at the stand after the match with Colombia for the semi-finals of the 2024 America’s Cup in the USA.
After Colombia’s 1-0 win at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, Jimenez gave a flash interview (an on-pitch interview) to CONMEBOL’s official channel and at one point stopped analyzing Uruguay’s future to ask, “Please be careful because there are families in the stands.”
Then he went into detail: “A certain sector of Colombian fans stunned our entire family. and they don’t let us talk into microphones. It’s a disaster; our families were in danger“We had to rush from the stands to pick up our loved ones with their small newborn children.”
“It was a disaster, there was no police officer, they fell within half an hour. And we are there, defending our own. I hope that those who organize this will be a little more careful with the families, with the people and around the stadium, and this is a disaster, because the same thing happens at every game,” Jimenez noted.
The Uruguayan defender said: “Our family suffers because some people drink two sips of alcohol, don’t know how to drink, behave like children and are not decent.“I hope that in the next games we will be careful and that this does not happen again, because it is a disaster.”
Earlier, Jimenez assessed the match: “When we had an extra player, we knew they would fall behind, shorten the lines, reduce the space. These moments should have been created through short breaks, but they defended well, we were unable to equalize and we are leaving with a defeat that hurts us a lot.”
And he pointed to the future of Celeste: “This is a team that continues to grow little by little, going from smaller to bigger.”
