Former Argentine soccer player Rodrigo Riep, Juan Fernando Quintero’s businessman, spoke with the press in his country and said that there were “several reasons” that prevented him from renewing with River Plate, beyond the fact that his wish was to stay and retire in a few years.
“Quintero does not continue in River for several reasons, the main one is economic“, said Riep in a chat with Radio La Red, according to what was disclosed by the Argentine journalist Germán García. “River did everything to keep it going but it couldn’t.”
The player’s businessman mentioned that the Central Bank of Argentina did not allow him to charge abroad and this was the main reason why he decided to leave the country. “You couldn’t make a pig (filthy),” Riep declared.
“We do not close the door on a return to River. Juanfer wanted to retire there and he asked me to arrange a three-year contract for him to retire at the club. Demichelis wanted him to continue, he called him,” Riep said about Quintero’s proposal to remain in the millionaire.
The truth is that the Colombian ’10’ decided not to renew at River and although he had offers in MLS and Brazil, he ended up agreeing to his signing with Junior from Barranquilla. Next weekend would be his debut in the Betplay League against his former team, Medellín.
Riep’s words have caused annoyance among a sector of the River fans, who say they do not forgive Quintero for his “contempt”.
