Health authorities Ghanareported the discovery of unusual cases of malaria-like disease in some areas of the eastern zone.
These cases did not respond to antimalarial treatment and were treated as acute febrile illness. Samples from the patients were sent to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research for analysis. Nine cases tested positive for dengueThey are currently being treated at home as non-serious cases.
A national team of entomologists and epidemiologists has joined the regional team to investigate the outbreak. Preparedness measures and actions are being taken, including, but not limited to, increased surveillance, public education, and entomological assessment.
In 2023, Ghana recorded 18 cases of dengue without any fatalities.

- 2019 yearSerological detection of DENV was reported in a study of adults attending a secondary hospital in the Central Region. Although serological testing did not confirm detection of the virus, positive diagnosis in two children and four adults suggests possible local transmission in Ghana.
