Health authorities Vietnam reported 123 cases in the first five months of the year malaria in south central province Khanh Hoa. The cases were recorded in 12 of 14 communes and cities in the Khanh Vinh region. Almost all cases in Khan Phu and Khan Dong communes are caused by the parasite. Plasmodium falciparumwhile most cases in Khanh Thuong commune are associated with the parasite Plasmodium malaria.
Only the city area Khanh Vinh 114 cases were reported, including dozens of severe cases. Almost 80 percent of the cases are men and about 25 percent are children aged 5 to 15 years.
In most cases, these are people who go to the forest to collect forest products and spend the night in the jungle. In addition, almost ten cases of malaria have been reported among rangers working in the forest throughout the year.
In 2024, despite the implementation of preventive measures, the number of malaria cases continues to rise, although this is not the malaria season.
