KETV NewsWatch 7 has put together the most exciting list, perfect for a bone-chilling road trip, of some of the most haunted places. in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. Bailey House Museum Located in Brownville, Nebraska, it is the home of Captain Bailey from the Civil War. He was allegedly poisoned by a neighbor and his spirit still haunts the residence. Those who work at the museum have reported that the doors do not stay closed and that they hear piano music at night. Ball Cemetery Located in Springfield, Nebraska, visitors have reported seeing multiple apparitions, including a tall man wearing a hat, laughing women, and some pulling at people’s clothes. Barnard Park Located near E Military Avenue and N Irving Street in Fremont, the park is said to have once been home to a cemetery and not all of the bodies were removed by accident. His spirits are said to wander the area, including reports of seeing a woman crying. Black Angel Located near N 6th Street and Military Avenue in Council Bluffs, the Ruth Anne Dodge monument now takes the name “Black Angel.” It is said that an angel visited her in her dreams several times before her death, sparking the legend that if the Black Angel visits you, you will die. Another legend is that if you look into the eyes of the statue, you will meet your demise. Blackbird HillLocated near Decatur, Nebraska, it is the site of the grave of Omaha Indian Chief Blackbird, but it is said that it is not his spirit who haunts this area. The spirit of a woman who supposedly murdered her husband. And it is said that her screams can be heard every October 17, the anniversary of his death. Brother Sebastian’s Steakhouse A regular customer who died is rumored to visit the establishment, relight candles and open doors. Captain Meriwether Lewis Dredge Located in Brownville, the now-museum is believed to be haunted and guests have reported hearing the piano playing while no one is around. Cornerstone Mansion Bed and Breakfast Located just off 39th and Dodge Streets in Omaha, the bed and breakfast dates back to the 19th century and guests who have stayed have reported seeing apparitions and spirits wandering the halls. Forest Lawn Cemetery Chapel Located near N 54th Street and Mormon Bridge Road in Omaha, the cemetery chapel is said to house a mass of shadows that wanders through the basement. Some people have noted feeling sick or feeling electricity pulsing through them while inside the chapel. Fort Omaha Located at 30th and Fort streets, the north Omaha portion of the Metropolitan Community College campus was once a military post and has been reported to be haunted, with visitors. reporting seeing ghosts in several of the buildings. Hatchet House Located near E 3rd and N Jefferson streets in Papillion, the one-room schoolhouse has a mysterious legend behind it. It is said that a teacher beheaded all of her students at the beginning of the 20th century. She is also said to have taken out their hearts and thrown them into a nearby stream. Visitors who find the Heartbeat Bridge report hearing children’s heartbeats, as well as other strange occurrences. Hummel Park Located near John J Pershing Drive and Ponca Road in Omaha, the park has multiple urban legends surrounding its history. It is said to be where satanic ritual murders have taken place. Graffiti has helped keep that legend alive. Some say the spirits of those who were lynched in the park still roam the area. Another popular urban legend is that of a family or group of albino people who live in the park. All the legends are what give this Omaha park its reputation for being all creepy. Joslyn Castle Located at 39th and Davenport streets in Omaha, the four-story, 35-room mansion is said to be haunted by the owners and their adopted daughter. Multiple paranormal investigations have been carried out on the castle grounds. Employees heard spectral voices, sightings of a woman in a white dress on the front staircase, and a voice shouting “get out,” among a series of other strange events. Seven Sisters Road Located near Nebraska City, the highway is also known as Road L on an official map. An old story of a father who was angry and hung his seven daughters on separate hills surrounds the stretch of road. Visitors have reported experiencing car malfunctions, dying car batteries, and hearing women screaming. Squirrel Cage Jail Located near S 6th and Pearl streets in Council Bluffs, the former rotating jail-turned-museum is one of three in the U.S., and it’s the largest. of three. There have been reports of cabinets and doors slamming, a girl’s voice, and ghost cats. The fourth floor is said to have the highest number of reported sightings. Villisca Ax Murder House Located in Villisca, Iowa, two adults and six children were brutally murdered in 1912. The murders were never solved. Visitors have reported hearing children’s voices, communicating with the dead, and cold spots throughout the house.
