KIA unveils new EV6 with updated design and larger battery

KIA introduced the updated EV6 in South Korea, which despite only being sold for a short period of time (it was released to the market at the end of 2021), has received a facelift that changes its appearance to resemble that of the new EV5 and EV9. In addition, it also includes several interesting technical innovations.

Optical groups take on thinner and more angular shapes; On the other hand, the GT-line trim includes an LED bar in the Tiger’s Nose grille that connects the headlights to each other. The bumpers have also been updated and there’s a new set of 19- and 20-inch alloy wheels. The changes at the rear are nuanced..

The same thing happens in the cabin, where highlights include a redesigned steering wheel and a new frame that spans the two infotainment screens. First of all, The brand has installed a fingerprint authentication system for keyless entry. and a digital rear view mirror with camera. The piano’s black trim has been removed.

Security has also become more important as The B-pillar is thicker to improve the rigidity of the monocoque. and side-impact airbags have been added to the rear seats (most cars on the market only have curtain airbags in the second row), thereby improving protection for rear passengers.

KIA EV6 has become more comfortable, safer and quieter

Acoustic comfort is also better: the electric motors are quieter and Additional insulating material has been added to the rear thruster.. The shock absorbers, in turn, have been adjusted to provide a more comfortable ride. Infotainment system with OTA updates (By air) includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard.

Like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 with which it shares a platform, the KIA EV6 gets an 84 kWh battery, replacing the previous 77.4 kWh battery pack. Although its approved autonomy within the WLTP cycle is unknown, It is expected to comfortably exceed the 528 km of its predecessor.. Of course, it retains its 800V electrical architecture, which allows it to charge from 10 to 80% in 18 minutes.

It is unclear whether the high-performance GT variant will benefit from the powertrain already used in the IONIQ 5 N, which provides 650 hp (478 kW)significantly superior 585 hp (430 kW) the current EV6 GT.
