Large Underground Cave Discovered on the Moon

An international team of scientists has discovered cave on the moon Depths of 130 to 170 meters and an area slightly smaller than a football field. This theory has been studied for over 50 years and has now finally been confirmed in the journal Nature Astronomy after this revolutionary discovery.

Situated in the region known as the Sea of ​​Tranquility, the cave is part of a gallery of underground passages about which, due to the lack of further exploration and more detailed studies, no further information is available at this time. In fact, it seems that there are several entries which they hope to explore in the future using radar, cameras and even robots capable of mapping their internal structure.

Although the discovery doesn’t give much more information about what we might find inside, everything points to the hypothesis that it is a volcanic cave, similar to those found in Lanzarote, an area that the researchers had already explored previously in preparation for this study.

Underground Cave on the Moon Could Become Human Base

The key to the cave lies not only in the discovery itself and how it opens the door to finding more similar underground structures, but also in how similar geographic features may be key to create a human base on the moon. Space stations on the ground (actually underneath it), where astronauts are protected from radiation and extreme temperatures on the lunar surface. In addition, its interior is expected to provide more information about the history of our satellite.
