Lil Yachty thinks hip-hop isn’t in a good place
On Friday (November 10), Lil Yachty and Tierra Whack chatted live in front of an audience. Rolling stoneMusicians on Music’s first concert at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York on Friday. During their conversation, Lil Boat opened up about the current state of hip-hop music.
“Hip-hop is in a terrible place,” Yachty told the crowd. “The state of hip-hop right now is a lot of imitation. There’s a lot of loud, low-quality music being put out there.”
He added, “It’s very low risk-taking, there’s very little originality in it… People are very safe now. Everyone is very safe. I’d rather take risks than take L.”

Lil Yachty delivers risk-taking alternative rock album Let’s start from here.
Lil Yachty is no stranger to taking risks. Earlier this year, the Atlanta rapper dropped Let’s start from here., their first alternative rock album. The 14-track collection features Yachty rapping over psychedelic rock productions, featuring blaring guitars and ethereal synths.
Yachty was inspired to go in a new musical direction after working with psychedelic rock group Tame Impala on a remix of their song “Breathe Deeper” in October 2021. He also appeared in the group’s neon-flashing music video for the song.
Despite getting good reviews for Let’s start from here.The album did not receive any Grammy nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards, much to Yachty’s disappointment.
“By the way, I was snubbed at the Grammy nominations today,” he told the audience at the Musicians on Musicians event. Strangely, the audience cheered, to which Yachi responded, “Why are you talking nonsense? You should be booing.”
He then added: “I don’t think anyone’s put out a better album than this. Like, sonically. Lyrically, maybe. But acoustically?”
