“Over the past week, Los Angeles County has experienced a noticeable, although not unexpected, increase in the number of reported COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths,” the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said in a statement.

“While the recent rise is significant, it is still well below last winter’s peak, and common sense practices are strongly recommended to help limit transmission and serious illness as we start the new year,” the report said.

The CDC’s average threshold is 10 to 19.9 new COVID-19 hospitalizations per 100,000 residents over a seven-day period.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported 10.5 new COVID hospitalizations per 100,000 people in Los Angeles County during the week ending December 23rd.
