Macron calls for stopping arms supplies to Israel in Gaza conflict
French President Emmanuel Macron has called on the international community to follow his country’s example and end supplies to Israel of weapons used to attack the Gaza Strip, saying “we will do so without sacrificing the civilian population.” Don’t fight terrorism.”
“I think that, today, the priority is that we return to a political solution, that we stop sending weapons (to Israel) to carry out the fight in Gaza. France doesn’t do that,” Macron said in an interview broadcast on France Inter radio this Saturday.
Macron did not mention countries that would have to stop selling weapons to the Jewish state, but so far the United States appears to be the main supplier. The French president has warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ignored part of the international community.
“I feel that we are not listened to. I have already told Prime Minister Netanyahu again and I think this is a mistake, a mistake also for Israel’s own security, because we see an resentment in public opinion in the region that is being created. Is,” he said.
The President admits that the aim is to “avoid escalation” in the area and has once again stressed that “Lebanon cannot become a new Gaza.”
