Madrid approves 47 million euros worth of vaccines for the next two years
Every year, in accordance with the vaccination calendar, about two million vaccines are administered in the region. Children and adults receive all types of vaccinations, but they must first purchase the required doses. This Wednesday, the Government Council approved an investment of 47 million euros to purchase 1.7 million doses and ensure compliance with this schedule in 2025 and 2026.
There is a State Framework Agreement, to which Madrid is a party, which provides for the procurement of the necessary vaccines, taking into account both the size of the population to be immunized and the vaccine supply available. We are talking about immunization of both healthy adults and children, as well as risk groups. The doses purchased now will cover the needs for protection against various microorganisms that cause vaccine-preventable diseases in children, adults and the elderly, as well as in certain risk groups.
In particular, the approved agreement provides for the purchase of hexavalent vaccines (against hepatitis B, diphtheria, acellular pertussis, tetanus, polio and Haemophilus influenzae), as well as those aimed at preventing diphtheria and tetanus with reduced antigenic content or against meningococcus (conjugate vaccines). against meningococcus C and against serogroups A, B, C, Y and W in various preparations).
Vials for immunization against measles, rubella, mumps, chickenpox, meningococcus and hepatitis A and B are also purchased for both adults and children.
Vaccination, the Ministry of Health reminds, is a measure that can even eliminate the transmission of certain diseases, as well as a more effective preventive measure aimed at combating healthy populations, and a main tool for certain risk groups due to their previous health status.
The Community of Madrid’s lifelong vaccination and immunization calendar covers protection against 18 vaccine-preventable diseases, from prenatal period to age over 60 years.
