Markel Zubizarreta resigns as director of women’s football over ‘irrefutable offer’
ANDThe director of women’s football of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Markel Zubizarreta, announced this Friday that he will leave this position starting next week, which he will arrive at the end of 2023 to take over “irrefutable offera club that fits more into the “family context”.
“The reason for the call is to announce that my relationship with RFEF will end this week. This is a difficult and extremely complex decision. and this is given by an offer from the world of clubs, which on my part is honestly irrefutable, given the family context and level of personal growth. It was extremely difficult, but because of family responsibility it was impossible to say no,” Zubizarreta confirmed at a press conference.
Markel Zubizarreta was the last to arrive in the federation November 23 as part of the changes undertaken by the organisation to improve women’s football and confirmed by his experience at FC Barcelona, where he led the sporting administration for six years.
“I want to thank RFEF for their understanding. I can only thank them for all the time I’ve been here. I am extremely grateful to Pedro Rocha, as President of the Federation, and Rafa del Amo for thinking about me. I met very valuable people in all departments.“Women’s football is in good hands,” Markel said at a press conference.
