Marlins-Red Sox weigh trade for prospect Triston Casas
The Marlins wanted to improve their lineup this offseason, but have so far come up short in the bidding for free agents like Jose Abreu, Justin Turner and Brandon Drury. miami yes agreed with the Dominican Jean Segura (according to a source), but they remain interested in reinforcing their offense and are now turning their attention to the trade market.
One potential partner is the Red Sox and according to Craig Mish and Barry Jakcson of the Miami Herald, the Marlins discussed a possible trade involving the Red Sox’s No. 2 prospect and No. 25 in all of baseballfirst baseman Triston Casas.
The Marlins have young pitchers with several years of contractual control like Pablo Lopez, Trevor Rogers and Edward Cabrera to offer, but Boston has so far turned down any proposals for Casas. According to Mish and Jackson, they are willing to trade a starter this offseason to bolster their offense. One trade could include a pitcher, plus two position players in Garrett Cooper and Joey Wendle, who will be free agents after the 2023 season. The Athletic’s Chad Jennings has reported that the Red Sox are interested in Wendle.
Casas has an .859 OPS and 46 home runs in 264 career games in the minors. He made his MLB debut in September and though he hit just .197, he had nearly as many walks (19) as he struck out (23) and hit five home runs in 76 at-bats.
