Megan Thee Stallion has released a metal remix of ‘Cobra’ featuring Spiritbox.
The ‘WAP’ hitmaker recruited Canadian heavy metallers for a heavier version of his latest single.
Bandleader Courtney LaPlante provides backing and also sings cleanly: “Leave me alone in the dark/I’m peeling off my skin/I need to harden my heart/To protect myself but the pain stays inside Is.”
‘Cobra’ was Megan’s first self-funded track and the first song to appear on Megan’s own Hot Girl Productions.
The rapper’s new song reflects on his “courage and self-reliance”, much like the snake with which it shares its title, after being shot in the leg by fellow rapper Tory Lanez and reportedly having to “intervene”. Legal action was taken against 1501 certified entertainers to try. Due to his control over her music and allegedly trying to keep her locked in a contract.
On Instagram, Megan said: “Cobra is an example of courage and self-reliance.
“They stand firm in the face of challenges, teaching one to harness their inner strength and trust in themselves to overcome their dangers. Imitating the cobra helps one have more confidence in the person within oneself.”
In ‘Cobra’, she raps about being “sad” and reaching “the lowest point”.
However, the lyrics also allude to one regaining one’s strength and self-worth.
Megan says in the introduction to the music video: “Just as a snake sheds its slough, we must shed our past over and over again.”
The 28-year-old star released her previous LPs, 2020’s ‘Good News’ and ‘Tromazin’ on 300 Entertainment and 1501 Certified, but she no longer has a record deal so she’s releasing her next record independently .
Megan recently released the teaser of her next album which will mark a new chapter.
She told Billboard: “It’s definitely coming very soon. I’m really excited about this chapter of my life because I feel like I’m finally closing all the old chapters, and now I’m going to be with a blank slate.” Starting out with. Very fresh, very new. I think the hotties will be very excited. I’m trying different things. I’ve got a lot of stuff that I made with Ju and some new producers.”
