Yuli Gurriel along with Aroldis Chapman and José Iglesias are the main Cuban free agents available on the market.
Gurriel from Sancti Spiritus comes from seven seasons with the Houston Astros where he won two World Series (one stained by the sign-stealing scandal), a Champion Bat and a Gold Glove.
Last December, Yulieski changed representatives. The Cuban signed with Diego Bentz, who has led other baseball players such as José Abreu and Nolan Arenado.
Among the possible destinations for the 2023 campaign has been Miami. The Marlins need to bolster their offense and a veteran could fit well into the lineup.
This Tuesday, January 17, journalist Alejandro Villegas reported on his Twitter account that Gurriel met with Kim Ng, General Manager of the Miami Marlins. The meeting took place in a Coral Gables restaurant.
Miami Herald journalist Barry Jackson said Craig Mish confirmed to him that the Cuban free agent had had talks with the Marlins.
Miami is the city where he lives the player with his family, so signing with the Little Havana team could be a greater comfort ahead of the campaign. In the marlins there is also Cuban Jorge Soler as well as many Latinos, among them the Cy Young of the National League Sandy Alcántara.
