Fassbender says of the film, which stars Jeff Bridges, Steve Buscemi and John Goodman: “I love that movie… Right from the beginning, Jeff Bridges is walking around a supermarket buying milk and paying for it with a check. I was there immediately. It’s an incredible script. It’s a great movie. And that’s when I said, ‘Okay, I’ll stop reading reviews on movies.'”
Ranging from 1990s classic to modern crime epic, Fassbender’s film is one that has long been dissected by rising young filmmakers, Fernando Meirelles and Katia Lund. City of God, Recalling his unique experience watching the film, Fassbender said, “I remember, in the first two minutes of the film, I was on a trajectory. It was such escapism. That was the best experience. That’s when I realized that this is the best way to watch a movie – not having a clue or knowing anything about it. It was a very nice afternoon.”
Making sure he focuses on the highlights, the actor’s next choice is Francis Ford Coppola ‘Best Picture’ winner, Saint, starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Diane Keaton. “It’s my favorite movie,” Fassbender admits, “People always say, ‘Don’t ask me what my favorite movie is!’ But it is a favorite film for me. Because of where it was in my life – around the time I decided to become an actor – it resonated so much.
His final choice is mockumentary and dark comedy man bites dog From 1993, an interesting independent film that tells the story of a film crew that pursues a brutal killer, and then begins to help the killer. Talking about the film, Fassbender says: “I was introduced to acting when I was 17, in the early ’90s, and Man Bites Dog was a big movie around that time. This is a Belgian film. I think they made it like 50 grand, and it’s incredible.

Fassbender’s last choice is the 1973 film mean streets, the film that would kick-start the director’s industry dominance. “Scorsese had a massive influence on me,” he told the publication, “even though I would say my favorite Scorsese film would be goodfellasI want to go along mean streets – Just because again, at that time in my life, it had such a big impact on me.
