(CNN Spanish) — The president of Argentina, Javier Miley, is on the cover of the June 10 edition of Time, as published this Thursday by the American magazine on its social networks, with a link to the article on its website where it focuses on the “radical” president’s plans to “transform” the country.
Miley took office on December 10 after winning the presidency in the second round, having been nominated by his La Libertad Avanza party.
The magazine said on its Instagram account that his rise to power “shows the strength of the right-wing populist movement that has won elections around the world in recent years.”
He added that, like his counterparts in Hungary, Brazil, Peru, the United States or India, Miley has spoken out for “the dismantling of a state plagued by corruption and governed by black elites”, but he differs from them in that “he has become a case study for the principles of government of a radical ideology”.
Miley, who defines himself as a “libertarian liberal”, has promoted reforms to deregulate the economy, reduce the public budget and cut government jobs, measures that have sparked some protests in Buenos Aires and other cities.
