Model Alice Hodder dies after being hit by a car driving behind her
Young Australian model Alice Hodder, 24, has tragically died after being hit by a car in a Melbourne parking lot. On the morning of the incident, Hodder was leaving a party at Sir Zelman Cowen Park in Kooyong when she was hit by a car reversing at high speed. Despite the quick arrival of police and emergency services, the young woman died almost instantly.
The tragedy didn’t just affect him. Two other people traveling with Elise were also hit by the vehicle. A 26-year-old woman suffered serious injuries to her leg and had to undergo multiple surgeries to reconstruct her ankle. A 25-year-old man was hit by a car, but miraculously escaped unharmed.
The police investigation points to 23-year-old Connor Mathiason as the driver of the vehicle. Mathiasen had reportedly used cannabis and was over the legal blood alcohol limit at the time of the crash. He was arrested for several offenses including dangerous and negligent driving causing death as well as grievous hurt.
His legal future is in the hands of justice, while his family tries to find words about the gravity of what happened. “It’s devastating, absolutely devastating,” his father said as he left the court, where he expressed his desire to monitor his son if he gets bail.
An entirely avoidable death.
The pain of Hodder’s family and friends has been felt on social networks and in the park where the tragedy occurred, where they have left flowers in his memory. Expressing the deep void left by her demise, her father said, “You were the most beautiful, loving and supportive woman. We will cherish every memory and support all of your friends, as you have always done for others,” he wrote in a touching tribute on Facebook.
The girl’s close friend Mia Bailey also remembered her fondly. “To know Alice was to love her. I have never met such a cheerful and authentic person. His laugh was infectious, his eyes were dazzling and his heart was overflowing with love,” Bailey posted, reflecting on the positive impact Hodder had on everyone who knew him.
