So far this year, two municipal employees have been diagnosed with substance dependence and an equal number have attempted suicide, so the Single Union of Municipal Workers (SUTM) explored options for their rehabilitation, General Secretary Jorge Sanchez indicated. Lara.

He explained that cases of addiction are sporadic, however, in the two cases presented, the union has maintained good relations with management so that the worker continues to be paid during his rehabilitation so that his family is not abandoned. ,

He stressed that SUTM members have medical expense insurance, paid for from workers’ fees, and have the right to receive 24-hour counseling for themselves and three other family members.

When asked about cases of depression and suicide attempts occurring among union members, he replied that there were two such cases which had been detected and directed to prevent fatal outcome.

“The two cases of attempted suicide are being treated like families,” The union leader insisted.

Finally, he emphasized that municipal employees are aware of the opportunities they have in the health field and I invite them to come forward and ask for help when they need it.
