NASA is offering three million dollars to anyone who can help solve a very eschatological problem
One of NASA’s medium-term goals is to try to establish a long-term or sustainable human presence on the Moon, but first some logistical or eschatological aspects arising from the presence of astronauts on the satellite must be resolved.
When the Apollo astronauts arrived on the Moon, they left 96 bags of waste, including excrement, on the surface to try to lighten the weight of the ships. Now NASA wants to try to figure out how to deal with this waste and anything that might emerge in the future if astronauts are able to spend more time on the satellite, so it has asked for help.
In particular, NASA launched and promoted through its social media a competition to find solutions to this waste problem. The agency is offering three million euros to whoever has the best idea to develop new technologies and alternatives.
The LunaRecyle Challenge was launched at a time when NASA is planning the Artemis mission to establish human presence, and they are clear: “Sustainability is important both on and off the planet.”
