NASA will set foot on the moon again in 50 years with astronauts wearing Prada

Prada is preparing for the moon landing. The Italian luxury fashion company has entered into a partnership with US space infrastructure developer Axiom Space. based in Houston to create the Axiom Extravehicle Mobility Unit (AxEMU).

The design was specifically designed for astronauts who will participate in NASA’s Artemis III mission. scheduled for 2026, which aims to land on the Moon for the first time in fifty years, since Apollo XVII in 1972.

The Prada logo is not visible on the suit, but several red lines were still included, referencing the main feature of the Prada Linea Rossa collection.first created for the Luna Rossa sailing team at the America’s Cup.

Axiom Space’s collaboration with Prada focused specifically on the design of the outer layer of the product and the production of the material. by which astronauts will have to endure low temperatures for at least two hours while passing through permanently shaded regions.

The Italian luxury fashion company also contributed to the aesthetics of the design, which is intended to be recognizable and visually inspiring for NASA’s next mission. Prada used cutting-edge technology and innovative sewing techniques to create a white outer layer that is aesthetically pleasing and at the same time compatible with the high-tech functionality that a suit should have.

AxEMU has already undergone various robustness and performance tests, analyzing its response to pressure simulations and underwater surveys. Axiom Space President Matt Ondler emphasized that this collaboration is presented as a fundamental model for facilitating mergers and alliances between industries.
