new product arriving at airports

Airports are considering lifting current restrictions on liquids in hand luggage. This is a significant change that travelers are eagerly awaiting and is driven by evidence new scanning technology in that London Airport.

CT scanners The devices used are capable of generating high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) images of baggage contents, allowing for faster and more efficient screening without the need to remove liquids or electronic devices.

British media Time has revealed that major UK airports will be required to install these advanced CT scanners by mid-2024, helping to drive new safety standards.

Thanks to this technology, passengers will be able to carry containers of up to two liters in their carry-on luggage, eliminating the need to be limited to 100ml containers and providing greater flexibility when purchasing liquid products during travel.

Already in September 2023, Aena announced that it would introduce this type of technology at Spanish airports operated by the company. Its intention is to install 160 scanning devices within five years, with Madrid-Barajas Airport and Barcelona-El Prat Airport expected to be the first.

Likewise, the portal aviationdigital.com reported that 170 automated carry-on baggage screening lines (ATRS) will be installed, which will automatically identify suspicious suitcases.

The reason why you should not carry liquids with you

Before the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, checking the contents of suitcases was not so strict. However, these events changed aviation safety policy.

The main concern was that the liquid explosive was hidden in ordinary containers such as water bottles, perfume bottles or cosmetic products.

To reduce this risk, there is a 100ml limit on liquids in hand luggage, reducing the possibility of handling large volumes of explosives in the cabin.
