Have you ever wondered if there is a time of day when exercise be more effective for you? A new study conducted University of Sydney gave an answer that may surprise you.
While many of us have heard that morning exercise is ideal for an energizing start to the day, researchers suggest that for obese people, the evening may be the ideal time to maximize the benefits of physical activity.
What does the study say about training schedules?
Angelo Sabag and his team University of Sydney conducted a study using data from the UK Biobank, analyzing the exercise patterns of almost 30,000 obese people over 40 years of age. Of this group, approximately 3,000 participants also had type 2 diabetes. Over the course of eight years, the researchers monitored participants’ physical activity levels using wearable devices, focusing on factors associated with physical activity. exercises are performed in the morning, afternoon and evening.
The results were revealing. Those who performed the majority of moderate to vigorous aerobic physical activity between 6:00 pm and midnight experienced significantly lower risk of premature death and death from cardiovascular diseases.
Why are night workouts better?
In this sense, Sabag suggests that the explanation for these results may lie in cardiometabolic regulation. Our bodies exhibit increased insulin resistance at night, and for those who cannot produce enough insulin to compensate, such as some people with obesity or type 2 diabetes, exercise at night can help alleviate this natural resistance.
Moreover, additional research shows that Exercising at the end of the day may have a positive effect on blood pressure, a key factor in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death. This improvement in blood pressure may be one reason why night exercise seems more profitable.
