Obsidian Entertainment’s “goal” is for Avowed to run at 30 frames per second on Xbox Series X/S, as one developer explained.
Matt Hansen, the project’s art director, explained on the Iron Lords podcast that 30FPS is the “minimum” the team has set as their goal.
“It’s a single-player first-person game, you don’t necessarily need sixty frames. And that allows us to have a lot more visual effects, lighting, and other things.”
“It’s a sacrifice we decided to make relatively early on, and we’re happy with it. The game runs pretty smoothly given how visually intense it is, and that was always our goal.”
As you know, the new RPG from the creators of Pillars of Eternity and Fallout: New Vegas was supposed to be released later this year, but Microsoft decided a few weeks ago to delay its release until February 2025 to give it more space, given the tight release schedule planned for the last quarter of 2024.
Just yesterday we published our first impressions of the game after an hour of play during Gamescom, which is taking place this week in Cologne, Germany.
Avowed will be available on February 18, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will also be available on Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service from launch day.
