Health authorities United Kingdom They just reported a case clade 1b from MPox in the country. The patient had recently been on holiday in at least one of the affected countries in Africa and felt unwell within 24 hours of returning home. On October 22, he developed flu-like symptoms and two days later a rash appeared. This is the first time this mpox clade has been discovered in the UK.
The infected British patient is being treated in a specialist infectious diseases unit with serious consequences at the Royal Free Hospital in London.
Over the summer, the World Health Organization declared Mpox a global health emergency. Clade 1b is of growing concern because it appears to spread more easily between people.
Close contacts of the patient are identified, including those living in the same house. It is believed that there are less than 10 of them.
Cases of this strain of smallpox associated with travel to affected countries have been identified in Sweden, India and Germany.
