Official Statement – Club Atlético de Madrid Official Website
Atlético Madrid reiterates its condemnation of the incidents that occurred during the match against Real Madrid. Our club adheres to a zero tolerance policy towards violence, prosecuting any manifestations of this nature and applying sanctions to those involved in accordance with our internal rules. Our cooperation with the authorities is ongoing and in this case we have worked with the police since the incident to identify those involved, three of whom have now been permanently removed from the club’s membership. Our security team continues to work with the police to identify the remaining individuals involved in the throwing of objects, who will also be permanently removed once they are identified.
On the other hand, after analyzing the resolution of the Competition Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, which orders the partial closure of the lower southern part (sector 127-133) of our stadium for three games, we believe that the sanction is harmful to a large number of fans who have no attitude towards what happened and showed exemplary behavior.
We believe that the unacceptable behavior of a few cannot result in such excessive punishment for the vast majority who have committed no wrongdoing. The biggest loser of all this is Atlético Madrid and its fans, and those involved in throwing objects are responsible for this and they should be punished, not the rest of the fans who clearly demonstrated their kindness. behavior. . For this reason, we consider it appropriate to appeal this sanction to the Appeal Committee.
