Part II for PS5 Pro

Digital Foundry has access to the PS5 Pro version and is taking a closer look at all the improvements and changes from the previous game.

The PS5 Pro presentation on September 10 was accompanied by a selection of games at the general link: most of them were previous PS5 releaseswith titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank or Hogwarts Legacy.

Among all these games, one in particular attracted attention: The Last of Us: Part II, a game released on PS4 in 2020. At the beginning of the year I received a new exclusive version of PS5TLOU II updated.

Can the PS5 Pro really bring significant changes to a game that already looks outrageous? Digital Foundry was able to analyze the new version of TLOU IIand his conclusions are most striking.

Changes to The Last of Us: Part II Remastered on PS5 Pro

In its extensive video analysis, Digital Foundry recalls that The Last of Us: Part II had two modes on PS5: one rendition at 1400p at 60fps and a Fidelity mode at 4K at 30fps.. The goal of this new version is to combine both modes.

Thanks to PS5 Pro mode, TLOU II is rendered at 1440p resolution and 60 frames per second.. These are the same features as the original performance mode, only thanks to technology. PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution reaches 4K resolution.

In fact, applying PSSR and scaling it with AI allows Higher picture quality than TLOU Part II Remastered fidelity mode.with a level of detail hitherto unheard of on consoles.

From faces to the smallest elements such as branches or fabrics. On PS5 Pro, everything is seen in excellent quality, and with the addition of 60 frames per second, it significantly improves the experience.

In Digital Foundry’s analysis, they look at the game on PS5 Pro with a magnifying glass, and the results are astonishing: Thanks to the PSSR, details that were previously hidden have become visible and it highlights the great work Naughty Dog has done.

For analysts This visual improvement is justified, especially if we play on a monitor or a large 4K TV.although not everything is perfect.

Using AI upscaling results in artifacts and some blurring.although Digital Foundry prefers it to the sawtooth feel of the original game.

TLOU II on PS5 Pro

Besides Image stability is sometimes degraded due to the use of PSSR.although these “breaks” are specific and do not affect the development of the game.

Depth of field is also increased on PS5 Pro.performance is impeccable, with stable speed of 60 frames per second at any time, regardless of the complexity of the scenes or the number of elements on the screen.

Digital Foundry’s verdict is: The Last of Us: Part 2 will have perfect stability and excellent visual quality. on Sony’s new console, but they’re primarily interested in testing how PSSR performs in more demanding PS5 games.
