With demand for electric vehicles in Europe not growing at the rate expected and some brands reconsidering their product electrification strategies, Peugeot has just launched an electric version of the 408, equipped with a motor that produces 157 kW (210 hp) and torque. torque 345 Nm. The car, equipped with a 58.2 kWh battery, can travel up to 453 kilometers on a single charge.

This autonomy will depend on the selected driving mode. There are three of them. By default, the E-408 operates in Normal mode, which sets power to 140 kW (190 hp) and torque to 300 Nm. Sport (157 kW/210 hp and 345 Nm) provides maximum performance and is automatically activated during kickdown (during downshifts). Finally, Eco (125 kW/170 hp and 270 Nm) optimizes energy consumption.

The driver can also select the intensity of regenerative braking using paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel. If the one on the left allows you to increase regeneration when you release the accelerator pedal (it holds the car stronger), then the one on the right reduces it.

This electric Peugeot has an 11kW three-phase charger as standard. For DC charging using superchargers, the E-408 allows up to 120 kW of power, allowing you to discharge the battery from 20% to 80% in just half an hour and get 100 kilometers of battery life in just 10 minutes. .

Built on the E-EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform) multi-energy platform, it is 469 cm long and 185 cm wide. The battery is mounted under the vehicle, between the four wheels, saving space in the cabin and lowering the center of gravity to optimize dynamic performance.

Driving position

The driver has a 10-inch high-resolution central screen that allows him to control the infotainment and navigation system. Below this display are five fully customizable i-toggle switches, providing direct tactile access to air conditioner settings, telephone contact, radio station, and app launch. It can be configured with up to 8 different profiles.

Like the rest of the latest generation of Peugeot models, the new E-408 is equipped with ChatGPT generative artificial intelligence, which responds to all requests via voice command, such as travel information or creating a test to keep children occupied during the trip. .

The trunk has a capacity of 471 liters, which can be increased to 1,545 if the rear bench seat is folded down.
