Polestar has just announced its own mobile phone with a “purely Scandinavian” design. This is not his own mobile phone and not a Scandinavian phone.
Mobile phone manufacturers make cars. And car manufacturers make mobile phones. NIO opened the doors with its first phone and now Polestar has just announced the Polestar Phone. A phone with “Scandinavian design aesthetics, exceptional simplicity and luxury,” according to the manufacturer.
Polestar is thus joining the growing trend, although for now the terminal will not leave China. We have a sneaking suspicion as to why this will happen: there’s not much Scandinavian about the phone.
Call it a Polestar phone, call it Meizu 21 Pro. The Polestar phone is not a Polestar phone. This is Meizu 21 Pro with the Swedish company’s logo on the back panel. This is not bad news: the 21 Pro is the best phone in the Chinese brand’s catalogue.
This is a different strategy from NIO, which introduced a phone that has virtually nothing in common with other Androids. In fact, on a design level, it wasn’t too similar to anything we’d seen before.
Focus on the most premium segment. He Meizu 21 Pro The Polestar phone comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, the best processor we can find on Android at the moment. It features a 6.79-inch 2K LTPO panel with a peak brightness of 1850 nits. The strap itself is manufactured by BOE.
The memory configuration is at least 16GB and 1TB of internal storage, all powered by a 5050mAh battery with 80W fast charging.
At the photographic level, it has a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 10-megapixel triple telephoto lens. Classic flagship Android setup.
What has Polestar added? Even though it is based on Meizu, there are some additions signed by Polestar. The phone comes in the same pearl white color as the brand’s cars (Polestar White) and also has a logo on the back.
In addition, the box (which also features Polestar logos and color schemes) includes a personalized case for the phone.
But the best addition is the software. Polestar cars come with an integrated Android Automotive OS and the brand has decided to merge with Meizu’s software. If we have a Polestar phone and a Polestar car, we can access all Meizu ROM apps and functions in collaboration with Polestar from the car itself. Also, since it is a UWB chip compatible phone, we can use it as a digital car key.
For now only in China. Meizu only sells phones in China, and this Polestar phone is no exception. A mobile phone, in fact, can only be purchased from the screen of a Polestar car. Its price is 7388 yuan (just over 1000 euros at the exchange rate).
