“Prevention of cognitive decline in aging: psychosocial and legal interventions”. UNED Summer Course – Company

UNED, the National University of Distance Education, is launching the summer course “Preventing cognitive decline in aging: psychosocial and legal interventions”, organized by the UNED Associated Centre of Asturias, directed by UNED professor and researcher Mª del Carmen Díaz Mardomingo, from the Department of Fundamental Psychology I of the UNED Faculty of Psychology, and coordinated by Jesús Gómez Garzas. It will take place at UNED headquarters in Gijón from 17 to 19 July and can be held in person or online, live or delayed.
The course will bring together experts from various disciplines related to aging. It will be attended by researchers from the Faculty of Psychology of UNED, in the field of fundamental psychology and psychobiology, a lawyer from the Faculty of Law of UNED, as well as psychologists from the Commonwealth program “Breaking the Distance”. region of Cider in Asturias.
The aim of the course is to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining cognitive status throughout the life cycle to prevent deterioration during aging, a particularly vulnerable stage of life. On the one hand, there are protective factors, such as exercise and lifelong learning, that can be incorporated into people’s lifestyles and thus help maintain optimal conditions for memory or language.
On the other hand, various risk factors, such as stress and unwanted loneliness, may contribute to the development of diseases that affect cognitive function. Neuropsychological assessment is an important tool for the early detection of emotional and cognitive changes and, based on this, the proposal of psychological, social and legal intervention strategies aimed at protecting and establishing support measures for older people in situations of vulnerability.
The sessions will feature a series of presentations showing practical examples of the specific topics covered, and the course will conclude with a roundtable discussion featuring select speakers.
This course is designed for students of psychology and related sciences, as well as professionals working in the field of older people. It is also designed for people who want to study and become familiar with the subject of the course.
No pre-qualification is required to participate.
Students who require this can request 1 ECTS credit after active participation in the course.
