Rachel Weisz is reportedly not the only MCU mentor figure returning to Thunderbolts
When Thunderbolts Opening in theaters in 2025, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will introduce a new type of super team that may not be as tightly defined as previous ones. A team of mostly reformed supervillains could open the door to a whole new MCU storyline. While the film won’t be in theaters for a while, we already know a lot about who is expected to appear.
Laurence Fishburne and Rachel Weisz are expected to play Bill Foster and Melina Vostokoff, respectively, in the new film. In case you missed it, Fishburne starred in the film. Peyton Reed Ant-Man and the Wasp as the brilliant scientist Dr. Bill Foster, better known as Goliath. Meanwhile, Melina, a supervillain making her debut in the MCU film. Fishburne is expected to reprise his roles as scientist Bill Foster and surrogate father to Hannah John-Kamen’s character Ghost, the stage thief. Created by David Michelinie and Bob Layton, the Illusive Man is a brilliant hacker and inventor who can become invisible and intangible by donning a battle suit.
In the 2018 film Ant-Man and the WaspJohn-Kamen played a female ghost named Ava Starr. And how did we know from Diversityshe will return to reprise her role in Thunderbolts.
So we can witness a tender father-daughter bond between Foster and Ghost as the backdrop for big and important Marvel action, although the creators have hinted that it will be different from other Marvel features.
Melina of the East, Florence Pugh’s evil spy mother, is also expected to return for the 2025 film. Like Natasha and Elena, Vostokov is a character who was trained in the Red Room. Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne) and Hannah John-Kamen’s ghost are inseparable
Laurence Fishburne’s Bill Foster and Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost/Ava Starr made their MCU debuts in Anthill and Wasp. Their relationship was initially kept secret until the nefarious Phantom was exposed. Foster was a former hero who turned bad and developed a personal vendetta against the former Ant-Man, Hank Pym. He took the orphaned Ava under his wing, becoming her guardian and mentor. He vowed to protect Ava until his last breath and kept his word.
After the Illusive Man is cured by Janet Van Dyne’s quantum powers, they escape together, promising to return in the future. Tarrows Originally scheduled for release on July 26, 2024, the release was delayed due to the writers’ and actors’ strike (via Collider).
