Reactions and final moments of conflict in the Middle East

Residents of Jerusalem confirmed this Sunday that Iran’s night attack with drones and missiles was “terrible”, but that they have confidence in their country’s defense system. Meanwhile, G7 heads of state and government will hold a video conference this Sunday afternoon “to discuss the Iranian attack against Israel”, announced the Italian government, which currently chairs the group of major Western powers.

“The Italian presidency of the G7 convened a video conference of leaders this afternoon,” the Italian executive said in a brief statement. The G7 is composed of Italy, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan.

The meeting was urgently called after Iran launched a nighttime attack with more than 200 drones and missiles against Israel, in response to the April 1 bombing against its consulate in Damascus. According to the Israeli military, the unprecedented Iranian attack was “defused”.

The UN Security Council also plans to meet this Sunday in the wake of the attack, which led UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to condemn the “serious escalation”.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak reported that the country’s air force managed to shoot down “several” Iranian drones during the strike.
