Refresco buys the company Frías Nutrición in Burgos from Alantra and the founding family.

Private equity fund Alantra and the Frías family have sold Burgos-based vegetable drinks firm Frías Nutrición to Refresco, in a deal for which they did not provide financial terms and which is subject to regulatory approval.

In 2019, Alantra Private Equity Fund III acquired Frías Nutrición, which has a production plant in Burgos with 250 employees, where it sells vegetable drinks (mainly oat, almond and soy), broths, creams and tofu.

As recalled in the foundation’s statement, since then, together with the Frias family, they have developed a project to develop and professionalize its management until the transition of the founders is completed.

The beverage company Refresco, headquartered in Rotterdam, Netherlands, employs more than 14,500 people and produces, among other things, juices, carbonated drinks and mineral waters.
The operation, according to the report, is planned to be completed by the end of the year.

Bruno Delgado-Luque of Alantra Private Equity stressed that since his arrival at Frías Nutrición, together with the founding family, they have launched an “excellent investment plan” that has led to the creation of “one of the most modern vegetable beverage plants and efficient companies in Europe” that has a bright future and will continue its successful growth with the support of Refresco.

For his part, Refresco CEO Hans Roelofs stressed that this venture is part of the “Buy and Create” strategy, through which they aim to expand their capabilities “in existing and related beverage categories”, positioning them in the fast-growing plant-based beverage market and complementing our existing presence in Spain.”
