This weekend the Spanish Rheumatological League (LIRE) is celebrating its Congress, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary and which brings together specialists, service companies and assistance, researchers and medicine in the treatment of patients with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (ERyMES). With the motto ‘Towards a new model of care of patients with rheumatic diseases’, the President of LIRE, Ana Isabel Vázquez Lozo, explained that this congress will highlight “all the great and disruptive changes that are taking place in relation to the care of patients with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases , especially from the field of mental health and pain, where we have been able to verify a significant and worrying increase in suicides over the last ten years.
During the two days of the Congress, the results of the study ‘Pain and mental health in ER&MES’, carried out by LIRE, will be presented, as well as the report ‘Voice of the patient with ER&MES in Spain’, in which the health Care needs are covered. According to a study conducted by LIRE with the consulting firm Albor on 40 associations and institutions of LIRE, the resources and infrastructure for patients suffering from arthritis and musculoskeletal diseases include approximately 11,000 patients from all over Spain.
For this reason, the President of LIRE explained that at this meeting, in addition to scientific sessions and conferences, a series of workshops and workshops designed for patients and professionals on the topics of greatest interest will be organized. “We want that, in addition to the knowledge that Congressmen can gain, they can also take home key aspects, through these workshops and workshops, by being in close contact with experts.”
